1.3.1 Rules, Regulations, and Instructions

Safety Rules. Safety rules are issued in another book. Employees must have a copy of that book, know and comply with the safety rules that have been issued.

General Code of Operating Rules. Employees must know and comply with the operating rules that have been issued. While on duty, employees must have a current copy they can refer to if needed.

Hazardous Materials. If an employee has anything to do with the movement of hazardous materials, they must have a copy of the rules and regulations while on duty. Employees must know and comply with the hazardous materials rules that have been issued. While on duty, employees must have a current copy they can refer to if needed.

Air Brakes. Employees must know and comply with the air brake and train handling rules if their job duties require them too. They must have a copy of the rules and instructions for operating air brakes and train handling to refer to while on duty.

Timetable and Special Instructions. Employees must know and comply with the timetable and special instructions if their job duties require them too. They must have a copy of the timetable and special instructions to refer to while on duty.

Classes. In addition to being familiar with and obeying all the rules, regulations, and instructions, employees must ensure they attend annual or semiannual rules classes as required. In addition to taking the class, they have to pass the required exams.

Explanation. If an employee does not understand a rule, regulation, or instruction, they must get an understandable explanation from a supervisor.

Issued, Canceled, or Modified. A railroad can add, change or cancel any rule at any time This can be accomplished by track bulletin, general order, or special instructions.
